The Grantham St carpark and boat ramp will be closed to the public for two weeks to allow for improvement work.

In May 2018, Hamilton City Council introduced a weight limit of 4000kg/4 tonnes for the carpark after it emerged the surface was prone to being punctured by heavier vehicles, such as cranes.

Although the carpark and boat ramp have remained available to the public, they will be closed for a fortnight from 25 March, to allow for repair work.

The existing asphalt will be removed, and any levelling to repair base course below the asphalt will be undertaken.

Once any base course remediation is completed, new asphalt will be laid.

No vehicles will be allowed into the carpark or boat ramp while this work is done.

Pedestrian and cycling access around the periphery of the carpark will be retained, but there may be short intermittent closures.

Two weeks have been allowed for this project, excluding major weather-related delays.

While the carpark and boat ramp are closed, other park assets will also be upgraded or maintained.

The nearest alternative car park is on Knox St, or customers can take advantage of the two hours free off-street parking in the central city.

The Pukete boat ramp will be available for boat owners wishing to launch their vessels into the river.
