New Zealand ShakeOut 2018: Earthquake! What if you’re on the loo?

The next big quake could really catch you short.

Earthquakes can happen any time, even when you’re on the loo and drop, cover, hold isn’t really an option.

  • If you’re seated, a good idea is to adopt the airline crash brace position – leaning forward with hands over head.
  • If you’re standing drop, cover, hold if appropriate or get in a door frame.

Participating in the big Civil Defence ShakeOut exercise at 9.30am on Thursday 18 October is a good way to prepare – you’ll be expected to react as if a big quake has hit at that time.

Hamilton City Council has signed up as an organisation.
