New Zealand ShakeOut 2018: Earthquake! You could be stuck alone.

You could be in an isolated area of a building when a big quake strikes.

Follow the drop, cover, hold procedure if possible.

There are a couple of things you can do to help avoid being trapped in such spots:

  • let someone know if you’re heading to an isolated area
  • take note of all exit points so you know escape options.

Participating in the big Civil Defence ShakeOut exercise at 9.30am on Thursday 18 October is a good way to prepare – you’ll be expected to react as if a big quake has hit at that time.

Hamilton City Council has signed up as an organisation.
