Provincial rugby fans get a chance to meet Waikato’s red-hot ITM Cup team and have their picture taken with the famous Ranfurly Shield this week when a Mooloo Parade makes its way through the central city.

Waikato Rugby Union’s Mooloo Ranfurly Shield Parade will be held on Wednesday, 10 October, from midday.

The parade will start at Knox St and head down Victoria St, before finishing in Garden Place.

It will be an opportunity for the public to be a part of history by coming down to the central city square to show  support for their provincial team, plus wishing the squad all the best for their final shield defence of the 2018 season – this Saturday night (13 October) against Otago at FMG Stadium Waikato.

There will be speeches from Hamilton Mayor Andrew King and 2018 Waikato team captain Dwayne Sweeney and the public will also have the chance to grab signatures, photos with the players and the Ranfurly Shield until 1pm.

Waikato defeated Taranaki in early September to claim the famous rugby challenge trophy, and the side has subsequently seen off the challenges of Hawke’s Bay and Southland.

Waikato first claimed the ‘Log o’ Wood’ in 1951. Its current tenure is its 13th with the trophy and it sits third on the all-time successful defences table among New Zealand’s provincial unions.

Saturday’s game day will also feature a double header at FMG Stadium Waikato with the SKYCITY Hamilton Waikato Women facing Counties Manukau Women in a Farah Palmer Cup Premiership semi-final from 2.05pm, followed by Waikato defending the Ranfurly Shield against Otago from 5.05pm.

Tickets for Saturday’s double header can be purchased here
