Growing Hamilton

Expressway marches past halfway point

The Hamilton section of the Waikato Expressway is halfway towards completion after two summer construction seasons, and the latest project video update is now available.

Around two million cubic metres of sand and soil were moved last summer and the expressway embankments have largely been constructed.

With the embankments out of the ground, earthworks can continue in winter, with the road pavement works starting in spring.

The Waikato Expressway will improve road safety, reduce journey times and congestion, and boost economic growth in the Waikato and across the country.

The Hamilton section is due to open in 2020. It will complete the 102km expressway that extends from the Auckland Motorway at Bombay to south of Cambridge.
