Lane closure for new wastewater pipe project

Major drilling work for the new Western Interceptor (a large wastewater pipe) will require one northbound lane to be closed on Mangaharakeke Dr (State Highway 1) starting from Tuesday 3 September.

Road users in the area are urged to plan ahead or prepare for delays as the project team install two deep manholes near the road side.

The closure will be 24/7 for approximately six weeks (weather dependant) on the section of road between the Crawford St roundabout and Foreman Rd.

During this time, we expect delays on Mangaharakeke Dr (SH1)/Avalon Dr Bypass and Avalon Dr and are advising motorists to take alternative routes throughout the city where possible. Bus routes will not be affected however users may experience delays given the higher volume of vehicles on surrounding local roads. Access to businesses and properties will be maintained throughout this work.

Construction of the large wastewater pipe involves installing around 2.4km of new pipe underground along the Avalon Dr Bypass and will extend the city’s current wastewater system. By catering for our growing city now we will ensure we have the essential things in place for residents now and in the future, while allowing for continued development in Hamilton west.
