A 30km/h speed limit and a raised pedestrian platform have been installed in Knox St to improve safety for people in this part of central Hamilton.

The entrance to Knox St from Victoria St has been narrowed by widening the footpath and removing the traffic island. This and the paved raised platform will slow traffic entering the 30km/h speed area, and make it safer for pedestrians crossing the street.

In addition to the safety improvements, an extra 22 parking spaces and a second mobility parking space have been created through the introduction of angle parking on the south side of Knox St. The slower travelling traffic will also assist drivers as they move in and out of the new angle parking.

Parking spaces in Knox St remain at P120 between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Sunday.

The Knox St 30km/h speed limit was agreed by the Council in December 2017 following community consultation, and brings Knox St into line with the rest of the central city 30km/h safer speed zone.
