Students welcome safer crossing on Collins Rd

Students crossing Collins Rd

New pedestrian traffic lights are now operating on Collins Rd, making it safer for people crossing this busy road.

Pupils from Deanwell School were among the first to use the new crossing, which will help make getting to and from the nearby school a whole lot safer.

People in vehicles travelling along Collins Rd is asked to take extra care while getting used to the new traffic lights, and to ensure they observe the 50km/h speed limit in this area.

These are the second of five new pedestrian traffic lights being installed across the city in selected high-risk street crossing locations, including around schools and retirement villages.

In 2019 they will also be installed on Victoria St by Trevellyn Rest Home, on Masters Ave by Hillcrest High School and on River Rd by Alandale Retirement Village and the Flagstaff shops.
